Eiffel Tower, Louvre cut hours as Paris braces for extreme heat
Paris landmarks, including the Eiffel Tower and major museums such as the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay, will shorten opening hours on July 11 and 12 due to extreme heat, according to official notices published on their websites, cited by Caliber.Az.
The Eiffel Tower and the Louvre will close to visitors at 14:00 GMT, while the Musée d’Orsay will remain open until 15:00 GMT.
Tickets purchased for later time slots will be automatically refunded, the institutions said.
France’s national meteorological service, Meteo-France, forecasts temperatures in Paris to reach 38 degrees Celsius, prompting authorities to issue the highest-level (red) heat alert for the capital and 24 other departments.
France has already experienced a prolonged spell of unusually high temperatures in June. For two weeks starting June 17, temperatures across the country exceeded typical seasonal norms. On June 23 and 24, average temperatures reached 30 degrees Celsius, marking the hottest days on record. The extended heatwave also contributed to outbreaks of wildfires in several regions.
