A traffic accident involving a passenger bus, a wood-loaded truck, and a car occurred in Türkiye’s Çanakkale city, claiming the lives of eight people and injuring many others.
The collision took place near the Ezine district when the truck reportedly overturned into the opposite lane, causing a chain reaction that involved a passenger bus belonging to Çanakkale Truva Turizm and a car. Emergency services, including health, fire, gendarmerie, and police teams, were dispatched to the scene immediately after the incident, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
Çanakkale Governor Ömer Toraman confirmed that the truck driver died at the scene. The bus was carrying 25 people, including three staff members. Five people died at the scene, and three others later succumbed to their injuries at Ezine State Hospital and Çanakkale State Hospital, bringing the total death toll to eight.
“Unfortunately, we lost a total of eight citizens. The condition of a few of our injured citizens remains critical, and medical interventions are ongoing,” the governor said.
The highway was temporarily closed to traffic following the accident, with vehicles redirected via alternative routes. Authorities have since reopened the road and restored traffic flow.
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç also extended his condolences via social media, expressing sorrow for the victims and wishing a speedy recovery to the injured. He added that a judicial investigation has been launched by the Ezine Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, with two public prosecutors assigned to the case to ensure a thorough and meticulous inquiry.
