Election campaign kicks off in Türkiye
The presidential and parliamentary election campaign begins on March 18 in Türkiye and will run until May 13, when a "day of silence" will be declared.
According to TRT Haber, the voting itself will take place on May 14, with a second round of presidential elections possible on May 28, if necessary.
"The election calendar" was approved this week by Türkiye's Supreme Electoral Council. According to the CEC, the nomination of presidential candidates will start on March 19 and end on March 23 at 17:00 local time. The list of candidates will be published in the Government Gazette on March 31, after which they will be able to start campaigning.
Political parties or unions that will participate in the election must submit lists of their candidates to the CEC by the end of the day on March 24.
Turkish incumbent President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed the election decree on March 10. It was originally scheduled for June 18.
