Envoy: Russia, Iran close to reaching deal on gas supplies via Azerbaijan
Iran hopes to begin receiving Russian gas through Azerbaijan in the near future, with almost all issues with Gazprom resolved, Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali told the Russian state news agency TASS.
“We hope this will happen in the near term. We are currently negotiating with Gazprom, and almost all issues have been resolved. We just need to reach an agreement on the price. If that is settled, everything will be launched,” Jalali said in response to a question.
Earlier, Russian Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev stated during the 18th session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation between Russia and Iran that the first deliveries of Russian gas via existing infrastructure through Azerbaijan are expected to start in 2025, with volumes reaching up to 1.8 billion cubic metres per year.
