Erdogan hails Somalia offshore drilling as “historic first” for Türkiye
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has described his country's ongoing offshore operations near Somalia as “historically significant,” highlighting what he said is the country’s first overseas deepwater exploration drilling mission.
According to Clash Report, Erdogan emphasized the strategic importance of the project and outlined an expected timeline for its completion, subject to environmental conditions.
“The operations we are conducting off the coast of Somalia are historically significant, as they represent Türkiye’s first deep-sea exploration drilling mission abroad. If climate and weather conditions permit, we expect to complete the drilling operation within six to nine months. Our hope is to deliver the good news long awaited by the brotherly Somali people, who have struggled for many years with instability and famine,” he said.
