Erdogan invites Japanese PM Takaichi to COP31 summit in Türkiye

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has invited Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to attend the COP31 Leaders’ Summit in Türkiye.

The invitation was extended during a meeting between the two leaders on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Türkiye’s Communications Directorate said.

Erdogan and Takaichi discussed bilateral relations as well as regional and global developments.

The Turkish president highlighted the potential for balanced growth in bilateral trade and stressed the importance of cooperation between Türkiye and Japan in energy, infrastructure and the defence industry.

Erdogan also outlined Ankara’s efforts to promote peace and emphasised the importance of rebuilding war-damaged areas in Syria, the Gaza Strip and Ukraine.

The meeting was attended by senior officials from key Turkish ministries and government agencies.
