Erdogan raps Sweden for lack of steps towards PKK to join NATO
Sweden has not taken steps regarding the activities of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), banned in the republic, necessary for Ankara to approve the country's entry into NATO.
“They also told us that they had paved the way for arms exports from Sweden to Türkiye. It is true that they have taken steps on these issues. However, unfortunately, no action has yet been taken against the activities of the terrorist organization PKK in Sweden. No steps have been taken. Our responsibility was to bring this issue to parliament, and we did that,” TASS reports, citing Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan telling reporters on board the presidential plane returning from Kazakhstan.
The president spoke about correspondence with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
“He also keeps a close eye on the activities. He says that he considers my step towards sending the draft resolution to parliament positive. I sent him a message and said that from now on, it is a matter for parliament. If America has a House of Representatives and a Senate, then we also have a parliament. Let's see how our parliament will interpret this, how it will discuss it. Now, as you know, the budget period has arrived. The parliament will be intensively involved in the budget,” Erdogan explained.
