Erdogan says Akkuyu NPP launch to have global impact

13 October 2022 15:40

The launch of the first turbine of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant [in Mersin, Türkiye] in the first half of next year will be a significant event on an international scale.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said this ahead of talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Astana, Anadolu Agency reports.

The head of the Turkish state further noted that the steps to implement the project of Turkey's second nuclear power plant in Sinop will also have a special resonance.

Regarding the agreement on the safe transportation of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea, Erdogan noted that Ankara is ready to make a feasible contribution to the promotion of the Istanbul agreements, including on the issue of grain and fertilizer supplies from Russia through Turkey to underdeveloped countries.

“The steps taken by Türkiye and Russia along the “grain corridor” cause dissatisfaction in certain circles, and at the same time are a source of hope for underdeveloped states,” he added.
