Erdogan: Türkiye expects Iraq to take effective steps in fighting PKK
Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that his country expects effective steps from Iraq in the fight against the terrorist organisation PKK.
He made the statement during a meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Abdul Latif Rashid in Baghdad, the Turkish Presidential Administration's Liaison Office said, Anadolu Agency reports.
The Turkish leader emphasised that "Iraq must be cleansed of all forms of terrorism".
Along with the fight against terrorism, the presidents discussed the state of bilateral relations, Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, regional and global issues.
The Turkish leader noted the importance for the stability of Iraq of establishing relations between the central government in Baghdad and the Regional Authority of Northern Iraq, as well as giving Iraqi Turkmans "the position they deserve."
President Erdogan noted that Ankara continues "efforts to end Israeli oppression in Gaza." The head of state called on the countries of the Islamic world to act together in this direction.
