Erdogan: Türkiye seeks to increase gas purchases from US
Türkiye has declared its desire to buy more liquefied gas from the United States on more favourable terms.
RBC-Ukraine reports with reference to the speech of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the NTV channel.
"We want to increase the supply of gas that we buy from the US on more favourable terms in the future," Erdogan said in New York.
Türkiye and the US are seeking ways to mend relations that have been strained by a series of disputes in recent years.
"We are ready to cooperate in the supply of American LNG to the countries of the region," Erdogan added.
The US became the largest supplier of LNG to Türkiye in the first quarter of 2022. The Turkish president points to the potential for expanding energy ties, but has limited opportunities to re-export gas to Europe. Türkiye annually imports about 60 billion cubic meters of gas.
