Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has welcomed US President Donald Trump in Ankara as the two-day NATO summit got underway in the Turkish capital.
Erdoğan personally greeted Trump upon his arrival at Esenboğa Airport, ahead of an official welcoming ceremony scheduled to take place at the Presidential Complex, Anadolu Agency reports.
Following the ceremony, the two leaders are expected to hold bilateral talks as well as delegation-level discussions focused on regional and international issues. A joint news conference is also expected.
Earlier, US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Dan Caine visited Anıtkabir, the mausoleum of the founder of the Republic of Türkiye, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Accompanied by a US delegation, Caine observed a moment of silence and laid a wreath at Atatürk’s tomb.
NATO heads of state and government, along with leaders from key partner countries, are gathering in Ankara for the alliance’s 2026 summit.
