Estonia considers $1.77 billion ammunition purchase Amidst ongoing negotiations
The Estonian government revealed plans to allocate approximately €1.6 billion ($1.77 billion) for an ammunition purchase.
Kristina Kallas of Eesti 200 party confirmed that an initial agreement has been reached among the Reform Party, SDE, and Eesti 200 to earmark €1.1 billion ($1.22 billion) specifically for ammunition procurement, Caliber.Az reports per Estonian media.
However, Lauri Läänemets, Estonia’s Minister of the Interior, clarified that while there is strong intent to proceed, no final agreement has yet been formalized.
The full allocation of €1.6 billion ($1.77 billion) for ammunition is still subject to approval during budget negotiations. Läänemets emphasized that although the principle of the purchase is clear, the details and formal decision will depend on the outcome of ongoing negotiations.
The anticipated purchase is expected to commence in 2026 or 2027, contingent on the completion of the negotiation process and formal government approval.
