Estonian defence minister stranded in Middle East amid Iran strikes
Estonian Defence Minister Hanno Pevkur, who was in Dubai when the US launched its operation against Iran, has reached Oman via overland travel, ERR reports.
Pevkur arrived in the United Arab Emirates on February 27, the day before US and Israeli airstrikes began. On March 2, he, along with a group of Estonians, crossed into Oman in the hope of finding flights home.
“We decided, together with a group of Estonians, to move to Oman, hoping to find flights to return home. At the moment, there are no flights, and we are taking it day by day. We don’t know how or when we will reach our homeland,” Pevkur said.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna noted that although Omani airports were open on March 1, air traffic remained heavily disrupted. As a result, the European Union has decided not to organize charter flights to the country for the time being.
