Estonian FM: Russian fighter jet breaches Estonian airspace
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has stated that a Russian fighter jet violated the country’s airspace.
“A couple of days ago, the tanker of the ‘shadow fleet’ Jaguar, which was sailing without a flag, entered Estonia’s exclusive economic zone. We responded accordingly by deploying our forces to escort the ‘shadow fleet’ vessel, as it lacked insurance and a flag. However, the Russian Federation sent a fighter jet to assess the situation, which illegally stayed on NATO territory for less than a minute. NATO fighters were also scrambled to monitor the Russian fighter,” Tsahkna told journalists upon arrival in Antalya for the NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting on May 14, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
Earlier, Tsahkna wrote on X that in connection with the incident, the acting chargé d'affaires of Russia was summoned to the Estonian Foreign Ministry: “The Foreign Ministry of Estonia summoned Russia's Chargé d'Affaires today [May 14] to express a protest & deliver a note regarding the violation of Estonia’s airspace after RUs airplane entered our airspace without permission. This is a very serious & regrettable incident, which is completely unacceptable.”
