EU Council kickstarts informal meeting in Lviv, Ukraine PHOTO
An informal meeting of the EU General Affairs Council began today, December 11, in Lviv, with the main focus on assessing Ukraine’s progress toward EU membership and determining the next steps in its European integration process, Lviv’s Governor Maksym Kozytskyi said on Facebook.
According to Kozytskyi, the meeting brings together 30 high-level representatives from 27 EU member states, including European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, Denmark’s Minister for European Affairs Marie Bjerre, and ministers and diplomatic representatives from other countries, per Caliber.Az.
One of the central topics will be the application of the “frontloading” mechanism, which allows Ukraine and Moldova to begin preparations for the next negotiation stages even before they are officially launched.
Kozytskyi noted that while this is a temporary measure, it is strategically important and aims to minimise the impact of Hungary’s veto.
