EU delegation to hold talks in Budapest with Hungary’s incoming PM
A delegation from the European Union is set to visit Budapest on April 17 for talks with Hungary’s expected future prime minister, Péter Magyar, focusing on key financial and political issues.
According to officials, discussions will include a proposed €90 billion loan package for Ukraine as well as the release of frozen EU funds allocated to Hungary, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Paula Pinho, chief spokesperson for the European Commission, said the visit is intended to establish early dialogue with Hungary’s incoming government. She stressed the urgency of reaching decisions on both financial support for Ukraine and the status of EU funds for Hungary.
“There is limited time to move forward on these issues, and it is in the interest of both sides to make progress quickly,” she said.
Earlier, Ursula von der Leyen signaled the EU’s readiness to work with Hungary’s new leadership as soon as it formally takes office.
The upcoming meeting is expected to serve as an initial round of consultations on key bilateral matters, with the aim of speeding up decision-making once Hungary’s new government is officially formed.
