EU foreign ministers to approve ninth sanctions package against Iran
The foreign ministers of the 27 EU countries will approve the ninth package of sanctions against Iran, which Brussels considers responsible for human rights violations, during a June 26 meeting in Luxemburg.
"The ninth package of sanctions against Iran will be approved," a senior EU official said, TASS reports.
The diplomat once again stressed that despite the regular imposition of sanctions against Tehran by the European Union, Brussels still expects to reach an agreement on Iran's nuclear program.
The EU has previously introduced eight packages of sanctions against Iran for human rights violations in this country. The restrictions include the freezing of European assets, a ban on entry into the European Union and a ban on European business on any business contacts with the blacklisted persons.
Earlier, Josep Borrell, head of the EU foreign policy service, suggested that the permanent introduction of new EU sanctions against Iran should not affect the efforts to reanimate the nuclear deal with Iran, which should guarantee that Tehran's nuclear program is exclusively peaceful in nature.
