EU foreign policy chief upset over Putin’s invitation to G20 summit

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has said that the invitation from US President Donald Trump’s administration to Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend the G20 summit was unpleasant news for her.

In an interview with CNN, she said it was very hard to hear, considering that a few days ago there were Russian intelligence officers charged with the murders of Americans on American soil, Caliber.Az reports.

“So, my question is, do these intelligence officers operate alone or do they get orders from Vladimir Putin? And I can tell you they get orders from President Putin. So, really very, very hard to understand this treatment of him,” she added.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio delivered the invitation during talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Moscow was grateful for the invitation, but a decision on Putin’s participation had not yet been made.

He noted that the issue required further consideration and coordination.
