EU parliament approves new aid package for Ukraine worth billions
The European parliament has approved a notion of providing €18 billion in financial aid to Ukraine to be issued next year.
Caliber.Az reports on this citing the announcement by the President of the Europarliament, Roberta Metsola on Twitter.
“In record speed, the European Parliament has just approved €18 billion for Ukraine to survive the war and start its reconstruction.
9 months into Kremlin's indiscriminate war, our support to Ukraine only grows stronger. We won't budge”, her statement read.
According to the proposal, as published on the official website of the parliament, the money will go to supporting essential public services such as running hospitals, schools, and providing housing for relocated people, as well as macroeconomic stability and the restoration of critical infrastructure destroyed by Russia.
The notion was supported by 507 parliamentarians with only 38 voting against it, while 26 members withheld their vote. The notion will now have to be confirmed by the representatives of the member states.
