EU revises defence priorities amid shortcomings in Ukraine war
EU defense ministers approved a revamp of the defense capability development priorities (CDP) on November 14, taking lessons from Russia's war in Ukraine.
As reported by Euractiv, the Capability Development Priorities (CDP) is the new version of a document last issued in 2018 and meant to guide all EU defense-related initiatives and provide member states with a common direction to adapt their warfare and identify defense equipment to purchase, develop, or research as well as emphasize the need for more conventional defense equipment and counter-drone tactics in their armed forces.
According to the report, the 22 priorities identified include fourteen priorities across five military domains and eight related to strategic enablers. The updated priorities include enhancing ground combat capabilities, land-based precision engagement capabilities, and integrated air and missile defense.
