EU special envoy to travel to Yerevan after Baku visit
The EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Magdalena Grono, who is currently visiting Baku, will visit Armenia on January 9.
High-level consultations with the country's officials are planned in Yerevan as part of the two-day visit, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
On January 8, President Ilham Aliyev received EU Special Representative Grono in Baku. This is Grono's first official visit to Azerbaijan in the capacity of the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus.
During the meeting, President Aliyev reflected on the long-standing history of collaboration between Azerbaijan and the EU, focusing on mutual interests in energy, transportation, trade, and investments. He reiterated Azerbaijan's commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the South Caucasus, referencing the ongoing negotiation process with Armenia. Both parties agreed to maintain dialogue to strengthen ties further.
Grono described Azerbaijan as an important partner of the European Union, highlighting the EU’s interest in ensuring lasting stability in the South Caucasus region. The envoy praised Azerbaijan’s substantial contribution to Europe's energy security and stressed the importance of energy cooperation.
Later, Magdalena Grono was hosted by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov as part of an ongoing dialogue on regional and bilateral issues. Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov recently met with Magdalena Grono, the EU’s Special Representative for the South Caucasus, to discuss regional and bilateral issues. The meeting also addressed regional security, the Armenia-Azerbaijan normalization process, landmine contamination, and missing persons from the conflict. Azerbaijan expressed concerns over EU policies perceived as supporting Armenia’s rearmament, urging actions that promote peace and stability.
