EU to disburse first €6 billion tranche of €90 billion Ukraine loan in Q2
The European Commission will release the first tranche of its €90 billion loan package for Ukraine in the second quarter of 2026, with approximately €6 billion set to be allocated for drone production, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on April 29.
Speaking during a plenary session of the European Parliament, von der Leyen confirmed that the initial disbursement forms part of a broader €45 billion tranche expected to be paid out this quarter, Caliber.Az reports via Ukrainian media.
She said the European Union had consistently maintained it would deliver the loan package “one way or the other,” noting that the move comes after Hungary dropped its veto.
“Our message is clear: we will continue our support to the brave Ukrainian people and their armed forces,” von der Leyen said.
She added that one-third of the €90 billion package would be directed toward Ukraine’s budgetary needs, while the remaining two-thirds would support defense spending.
Von der Leyen also reiterated the EU’s broader stance on the conflict, stating: “while Russia doubles down on its aggression, Europe doubles down on our support to Ukraine.”
