European Council chief calls on Iran to stop attacking region
Iran must cease military actions against regional states and cooperate to ensure the free passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, European Council President António Costa said.
In a social media post, Costa noted that he made these remarks during a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Caliber.Az reports.
He described the current situation in the Middle East as “extremely dangerous” and called on all parties to the conflict to “fully respect international law.”
“There must be space for diplomacy. The EU stands ready to contribute to all diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and for a lasting solution to end the hostilities, while addressing the broader security concerns posed by Iran,” Costa emphasised following the conversation.
