European national detained in Iran on espionage charges linked to Mossad

Iranian authorities have announced the arrest of a European national on charges of espionage for Israeli intelligence services.

According to Hamadan prosecutor Abbas Najafi, the suspect entered Iran disguised as a tourist and was tasked with establishing intelligence networks, gathering sensitive information, and sabotaging the country’s anti-missile defence systems, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

In a related development on June 22, Iranian judicial officials sentenced a man to capital punishment for espionage activities on behalf of Mossad, Israel’s intelligence agency. The convicted individual allegedly transmitted classified information about Iran, including details on specific individuals, to Israeli handlers located in a Gulf state. His identity has not been disclosed.

Earlier security operations in Iran thwarted a series of planned terrorist attacks in the city of Ray, situated in Tehran’s southern suburbs. According to Iranian media reports, the group responsible for the planned attacks is believed to have ties to Mossad. Iranian police successfully neutralized all threats during the operation. Israel has not issued any official response regarding these allegations.

These incidents come amid escalating tensions following recent US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, to which Tehran has warned of severe retaliatory consequences.
