Ex-Armenian police chief seeks to keep son out of military service

Former Armenian Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan has filed a lawsuit against the Defence Ministry over attempts by the ministry to conscript his 22-year-old son into the army.

Gasparyan, who previously also served as head of the Military Police and deputy defence minister, filed a lawsuit with the Administrative Court challenging a Defence Ministry decision dated January 8, 2026.

The court has accepted the lawsuit for consideration.

A criminal case was also opened against Gasparyan’s son in March 2026 on charges of evading military service.
