Ex-Armenian president signals political comeback amid approaching elections “My team will take part”
Former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan’s team will participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
“My team will take part,” Kocharyan said at a press conference on October 12, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
While declining to speak on behalf of other former leaders, Kocharyan noted that the 2021 elections showed he “has a certain influence to consolidate the masses.”
He also emphasised his desire to see new political forces emerge and expressed hope that cooperation with them could bring change to the country.
He reminded that while the party of Armenia’s first president participates in political processes, the party of the country’s third president participates in all elections.
“Does the participation of the party mean the participation of its leader? Of course,” the former president said.
“What’s better—staying behind the scenes and making all the decisions, or stepping forward openly and dropping the mask? What’s better? To remain the leader and claim you're not participating... But who is? The party's participation means the leader's participation, too. If someone joins our team who gets more votes, I'll be there, I'll be happy. It's not a matter of principle," Kocharyan assured.
