Ex-presidential advisor: Ukraine can build nuclear weapons in nine months

A former advisor to the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Oleksiy Arestovych, has said that Kyiv can build nuclear weapons in nine months, but it doesn’t need to.

According to Arestovych, if Ukraine builds nuclear weapons, it would violate the system of international treaties it fights to uphold.

"The question here is whether it is more profitable for us to get nuclear weapons or to remain a country that demonstrates civilised behaviour and even in times of war for the existence of the nation remains within the framework of universal and pan-European trends," Gazeta.ru quotes Arestovich as saying.
