Ex-Russian PM faces new legal trouble over foreign-agent rules

The Moscow Prosecutor’s Office has forwarded materials concerning former Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov to investigative authorities to consider initiating criminal proceedings against him for evading obligations imposed under Russia’s foreign-agent legislation.

“The materials of the prosecutorial investigation have been forwarded to the investigative authorities to decide on criminal prosecution of Kasyanov for evading the obligations stipulated by legislation on foreign agents,” the prosecutor’s office press service said, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Kasyanov had previously been held administratively liable for violating regulations governing the activities of foreign agents.

Despite being abroad, he continued to distribute messages and other materials without the labeling required under Russian law, the prosecutor’s office said.

Kasyanov was also added to Rosfinmonitoring’s (Federal Service for Financial Monitoring) list of terrorists and extremists last November.
