Experienced US diplomat appointed to lead Gaza coordination centre
Stephen Feigin, the US Ambassador to Yemen, has been appointed to lead the Civil-Military Coordination Centre in the Gaza Strip, overseeing the implementation of President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan, Israeli newspaper Maariv reports.
Feigin will serve as the civilian head of the centre, based in Kiryat Gat.
He is a seasoned diplomat with the rank of Minister Counsellor and is considered one of the most knowledgeable American experts on the Middle East. Born in New York City, raised in New Jersey, and currently residing in Washington, DC, he has held senior positions across the US diplomatic corps.
Since May 2022, Feigin has served as the US Ambassador to Yemen in areas not under Houthi control.
His previous roles include deputy chief of mission at the US Embassy in Baghdad (2020–2021), head of the Consulate General in Erbil (2018–2020), director of the State Department’s Iran Bureau (2015–2018), and director of the Bureau of Regional Affairs for South and Central Asia (2013–2015).
He has also held postings in key diplomatic missions around the world, including Brussels, Islamabad, Astana, Minsk, Tbilisi, and Cairo.
Over the course of his career, Feigin has received numerous awards and honours in recognition of his service.
