Explosion in Armenian church damages building, priest hospitalized

An explosion occurred on February 15 at the parish house of the Holy Mother of God Church in Martuni (Ashagi Garanlikh), a town in Armenia's Gegharkunik Province.

According to Armenian media outlets, the explosion took place during the afternoon. Father Akop Barsegyan, the head of the church, sustained injuries and was rushed to a local medical centre for treatment, Caliber.Az reports.

The cause of the explosion is currently unknown. The blast caused the church’s front door to be blown off and shattered windows.

Authorities are on the scene, with law enforcement agencies investigating the incident. The police press service has yet to comment on the situation.
