Ruling party: Armenian authorities maintain contacts with bishops abroad
The head of Prime Minister Pashinyan’s parliamentary faction has affirmed that Armenian government officials maintain communication with bishops of the Armenian Apostolic Church (AAC) overseas.
Speaking at a press briefing, Artur Hovhannisyan, secretary of the ruling Civil Contract faction, said there was nothing unusual about such interactions, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
“State officials communicate with representatives of the AAC dioceses, and there is nothing surprising in this,” he stated.
Armenian media earlier reported that Pashinyan had involved ambassadors in a campaign against Catholicos Garegin II.
It was claimed that the Armenian ambassador to the United States, Mkrtchyan, met personally with the head of the AAC Western Diocese in the US, who was allegedly promised the position of Catholicos.
