Fars: Ayatollah Ali Khamenei to be buried in Mashhad
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, who was killed on February 28 in an attack attributed to Israel and the United States, will be laid to rest in his home city of Mashhad.
The report came from Fars News Agency, a news outlet linked closely with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
According to the report, funeral arrangements and the dates of official mourning ceremonies will be announced in due course.
Authorities announced 40 days of national mourning and seven days of public holiday.
Trump wrote on Truth Social that “Khamenei, one of the most evil people in history, is dead,” following reports from Israeli officials that the Iranian leader had been targeted in coordinated operations.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said there were “many signs” that Khamenei was no longer alive after what he described as a “powerful surprise strike” in the heart of Tehran.
Channel 12 reported that a photograph of Khamenei’s body was shown to Netanyahu after it was recovered from the rubble.
