Fatal pileup on Kazakhstan highway leaves five dead
A devastating road accident claimed the lives of five people on a highway in Kazakhstan’s Akmola Region.
The crash occurred on June 21 on the Astana–Korgalzhyn highway and involved three vehicles, two of which were completely destroyed by fire, Caliber.Az reports per Kazakh media.
Reports of the tragedy first appeared on social media before being officially confirmed by regional law enforcement authorities.
According to the Police Department of Akmola Region, the collision involved a Kia, a Toyota Fortuner and a Toyota Land Cruiser. The impact was so severe that the two Japanese SUVs caught fire almost immediately.
Police said a pre-trial investigation has been launched into the incident, and all circumstances surrounding the crash are being established.
