Fatal shooting in Tbilisi leaves teenager dead, suspect arrested
Officers from the Tbilisi Police Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs have detained a man suspected of carrying out a shooting that left a minor dead, the ministry said in a statement published on Facebook.
According to investigators, the suspect opened fire in Tbilisi on July 22, wounding four people before fleeing the scene. Two of the victims were minors, Caliber.Az reports.
All of the injured were taken to hospital, but one of the minors later died from their injuries.
The suspect was apprehended following operational search measures carried out by law enforcement authorities. During the arrest, he offered armed resistance to police officers and sustained injuries to his fingers.
The investigation is being conducted under Article 19-109 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which covers attempted aggravated murder and carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment.
