Ferrari picks Alfa Romeo’s Vasseur to revive Formula 1 Scuderia
Ferrari NV appointed Fred Vasseur as Formula 1 team principal and general manager to replace Mattia Binotto who resigned last month.
Vasseur has most recently held the position of chief executive officer and team principal of Sauber Motorsport, currently Alfa Romeo F1 Team, since 2017, according to a statement. Prior to this, he was team principal of Renault F1 Team in 2016, Bloomberg reported on December 13.
The 2022 season was another disappointing one for the Italian team despite signs of recovery in the initial races. Ferrari’s drivers didn’t manage to keep pace and Oracle Red Bull Racing won both the driver championship with Max Verstappen and the constructor standings.
Vasseur was team principal at Sauber Alfa Romeo when Charles Leclerc, now Ferrari’s top driver, debuted in Formula One in 2018. Vasseur will start in January at Ferrari.
