Finance minister: Armenian national dept up by 5.8%
Armenia’s national debt stood at 5 trillion 318 billion drams as of March 31, reflecting a 4.4 per cent increase compared to the end of last year. In U.S. dollar terms, the debt rose by 5.8 per cent over the same period, Finance Minister Vahe Hovhannisyan announced at a press conference.
"As of 2024, the debt-to-GDP ratio has decreased by 0.1 percentage points. In U.S. dollar terms, the debt amounts to $13.581 billion. Borrowing and debt volumes are incorporated into Armenia’s budget and the medium-term debt strategy, which outlines both the volume and sources of debt," he said, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
The minister noted that in recent years, the volume and share of domestic debt have increased in terms of the currency of borrowing and residency.
"We have now reached the level of 50 per cent domestic debt, which is quite a positive indicator," Hovhannisyan said.
