Finland seizes over 800 Russian freight wagons
The Finnish rail operator has seized a minimum of 865 freight wagons belonging to Russia due to EU sanctions.
The Finnish bailiff service informed about the freezing of the assets of several dozen individuals and companies from Russia and Belarus in accordance with EU sanctions, TASS reports citing Reuters.
In addition, assets of some transport companies worth at least 82 million euros were also frozen.
The Finnish railway operator VR Group has reduced transportation with Russia after the EU imposed sanctions on Russian coal supplies in April, and in June, 865 Russian railway wagons were confiscated by bailiffs.
A spokeswoman for VR Group confirmed in an email that “about 800 sanctioned wagons are currently in Finland” and the company is currently interested in returning the wagons to Russia.
Most of the seized wagons belong to companies whose shareholders fell under EU sanctions after the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine in late February.
