Finnish president arrives in Ukraine: Security, EU integration, peace on agenda
President of Finland Alexander Stubb has arrived in Kyiv for an official visit, during which he is scheduled to hold high-level discussions with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak stated.
“Together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha, we met at the beginning of the visit to Ukraine, the President of Finland Alexander Stubb,” Yermak noted, Caliber.Az reports, citing Ukrainian media.
According to him, the meeting between President Zelenskyy and President Stubb will center on a broad array of strategic priorities, including bilateral security projects, Ukraine’s path toward European integration, foreign investment in infrastructure, and long-term security guarantees for the Ukrainian state.
“Also, we will talk about strengthening pressure on the Russian Federation, sanctions, and the importance of a lasting peace. We are grateful for the consistent and firm support of Finland and, personally, Alexander Stubb. Ukraine, together with partners, is doing everything to bring closer a lasting peace and to guarantee security in Europe,” added Yermak.
President Stubb has maintained a firm stance on the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine, expressing skepticism about Moscow's willingness to pursue peace.
Earlier, the President of Finland stated that Volodymyr Putin is not interested in stopping the war in Ukraine, or in achieving at least a truce and cessation of fire.
Stubb recently joined a delegation of several European leaders on a visit to Washington, DC, in August. There, they held a joint meeting with US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss the prospects for peace between Russia and Ukraine.
Following the meeting, Stubb emphasized that achieving peace in Ukraine must remain the priority but reiterated his assessment of the Kremlin’s unwillingness to pursue a genuine settlement.
