Fire breaks out at children’s hospital in Kazakhstan’s capital
A fire has been reported at a children’s hospital in Astana, Kazakhstan, with information about the incident first spreading on social media.
According to Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Emergency Situations, the blaze started in an electrical switchboard located in the basement of the hospital. Fire crews arrived within two minutes of receiving the alert and immediately began extinguishing the fire.
As a precaution, medical staff and patients were evacuated and temporarily relocated to nearby healthcare facilities. A firefighting command centre and a heating point were also set up at the scene.
“Thanks to coordinated efforts by rescuers, the fire was fully extinguished over an area of 10 square meters. There were no casualties. The cause is being determined,” the ministry added.
