Fire breaks out at Russia's Syzran refinery after reported drone strike photo
A tank farm at the Syzran oil refinery in Russia’s Samara region caught fire following a reported Ukrainian drone attack, according to the OSINT analysis project by ASTRA.
Reports of the incident were also shared by local residents on social media, who described an attack targeting the facility.
Earlier on the morning of April 18, a similar drone attack was reported at the Novokuybyshevsk oil refinery, also located in the Samara region. The regional governor confirmed that an attack had taken place but did not provide details on whether the facility itself had been hit.
Both the Syzran and Novokuybyshevsk refineries are part of Rosneft’s Samara refinery group.
The Syzran refinery is one of the largest oil processing facilities in the region, producing a wide range of petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation fuel, fuel oil, bitumen, and liquefied hydrocarbon gases. The plant has an annual processing capacity of between 7 and 8.5 million tons of crude oil.
The facility has previously been targeted by Ukrainian drones, with reported attacks in November and December 2025.
