Fire breaks out at tire factory in Çekmeköy, Istanbul

A fire erupted at a tire factory in the Çekmeköy district of Istanbul, sending thick smoke billowing into the sky.

The blaze, which broke out under undetermined circumstances, quickly spread across a 3,000-square-meter area, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.

The incident occurred on Saray Street in the Alemdağ neighborhood of Çekmeköy. Emergency services, including fire, police, and medical teams, were promptly dispatched to the scene. Firefighters are actively working to control the flames and prevent further damage.

The thick, dark smoke has created visibility issues and is visible across the surrounding areas. Authorities have not yet provided details on the cause of the fire or the extent of the damage, but the situation remains under control as firefighting efforts continue.

Local residents and workers in nearby areas are urged to stay clear of the scene as emergency crews manage the situation.

To recall, a devastating fire broke out at a ski resort in Kartalkaya, Türkiye, on the night of January 21.

The fire broke out in the restaurant area of the 12-storey wooden hotel. The flames rapidly spread throughout the structure. According to Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, emergency services arrived at the scene within 40-45 minutes, but the fire proved difficult to contain.

Despite emergency responders arriving very quickly, the fire's intensity left many trapped, with some attempting to escape by jumping out of windows.

Of the 238 guests staying at the hotel that night, 79 lost their lives and 51 sustained injuries. Some individuals attempted to escape by jumping out of windows in desperation. The disaster left a profound impact across the nation.
