Fire breaks out on Yekaterinburg–Istanbul flight due to portable charger PHOTO
A fire occurred on board a Ural Airlines Airbus A320 operating a flight from Yekaterinburg to Istanbul after a portable charger ignited.
The power bank was placed on a free seat next to its owner and caught fire about 20 minutes after takeoff, Caliber.Az reports per Telegram channel Baza.
While attempting to disconnect his phone from the device, the passenger sustained a finger burn.
Flames damaged the seat upholstery and seatbelt, but flight attendants quickly extinguished them using a fire extinguisher. The faulty power bank was then placed in a metal container filled with water and secured in a safe location.
Medical assistance was offered to the injured passenger, but he declined. The airline confirmed that the flight continued normally and the aircraft landed safely in Türkiye.
