Fire reported at major Russian oil refinery in Nizhny Novgorod Region VIDEO

26 August 2026 08:53

A fire has been reported at the Lukoil-Nizhny Novgorodnefteorgsintez (NORSI) oil refinery in Kstovo, Nizhny Novgorod Region, following what residents described as an overnight attack on August 26.

Russian-language Telegram channel ASTRA published footage purportedly showing a fire at the refinery. The cause of the blaze has not been independently verified.

NORSI is one of Russia’s largest oil refineries and a major supplier of fuel to the Nizhny Novgorod Region and central parts of the country. The facility has an annual crude-processing capacity of around 17 million tonnes.

The refinery produces approximately 5 million tonnes of gasoline and more than 5 million tonnes of diesel fuel annually, making it a strategically important part of Russia’s fuel supply network.

The reported incident comes amid a continuing campaign of attacks targeting Russian oil-refining and fuel infrastructure.

According to Reuters and The Moscow Times, NORSI was among Russian refineries that halted crude processing following a strike on July 2, 2026. The facility’s operations have therefore already faced disruption in recent months.
