Firefight erupts in Iran's Rey between law enforcement and alleged Mossad operatives
In the early hours of June 18, Iranian security and law enforcement forces engaged in a firefight with individuals suspected of connections to Mossad or Israeli espionage in Rey.
The confrontation began near Khan Mohammadi Street, which leads to Fadaiyan-e Islam Street and the city’s central square, and lasted approximately thirty minutes, Caliber.Az reports via Mehr agency.
Both sides were armed with automatic weapons, exchanging mostly single shots, with occasional bursts of gunfire.
During the clash, security forces coordinated by sharing information about the suspects’ locations, resuming fire as they moved in. After the initial engagement, the sound of motorcycles increased, with witnesses reporting a Peugeot car and a motorcyclist fleeing the scene.
The firefight spread to Fadaiyan-e Islam Street, where machine gun fire continued to be heard. By around 3:30 a.m., the conflict shifted further away from the city square.
Mehr reports that the group had planned to carry out a terrorist attack in heavily populated areas of the capital.
