Five young people killed after car plunges into ravine in France
Five young people aged between 17 and 20 have died in a serious road accident in France’s Ardèche department after their vehicle plunged into a ravine and caught fire, according to a report by BFM.
The crash occurred on Friday, May 1, in the commune of Sarras. Firefighters said the car, carrying five residents of the Rhône region, veered off the road and fell into a ravine from a height of approximately 20 to 25 meters before igniting.
Emergency responders initially reported four fatalities, but later confirmed that the remains of all five occupants were found inside the burned vehicle at the scene.
A total of 42 firefighters were deployed to the operation, including specialised GRIMP units trained for rescues in difficult terrain, as well as diving teams. Authorities fully closed the road during the emergency response.
An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident.
