FM Araghchi, UN envoy discuss escalation between Iran and US
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for the Middle East, Jean Arnault, discussed the latest escalation in tensions between Tehran and Washington.
During the meeting, Araghchi condemned what he described as repeated US attacks, violations of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, and Israeli airstrikes on Lebanon. He placed responsibility for the dangerous consequences of the escalating tensions on the White House.
The Iranian foreign minister stressed the need for the United Nations to adopt a firm position on the issue.
Araghchi also stated that Iran would continue to support Lebanon’s territorial integrity and national sovereignty.
Arnault referred to the situation in Lebanon and the efforts being undertaken by the United Nations to stabilise the ceasefire in the region and end the war.
He expressed hope that the implementation of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States on ending the war, along with strengthened cooperation among the countries of the region, would contribute to lasting peace and security in the region, particularly in Lebanon.
