FM: Azerbaijan-Armenia direct dialogue starts from meeting in Georgia

17 July 2022 09:25

Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili has said that a direct dialogue between Azerbaijan and Armenia has started from the meeting in Georgia’s Tbilisi city on July 16.

“We were able to support our partners, and friends to conduct a dialogue. First of all, our goal in this process is that our friendly, neighbouring countries can receive concrete results as a result of these negotiations,” Darchiashvili told the Georgia Public Broadcasting, APA reports.

The minister noted that the main goal is to strengthen peace and security in the region - in the South Caucasus through joint coordination and close communication.

Darchiashvili said that security in the world is important for the region when it is facing challenges.

While answering the question of whether this meeting ended with a concrete result, the foreign minister noted that amid just one round of international negotiations, it is sometimes impossible to achieve concrete results and the same happened today.

“The most important thing is that a precedent has been created, and we have started a direct dialogue between the two neighbouring countries. They voiced all the priority issues on the agenda that are of interest to them and the solution of which is of particular importance. I am sure that a solid foundation was created for the continuation of negotiations thanks to this meeting,” he said.

The minister noted that during the meeting the sides put forward issues, the solution of which is a priority.

The Georgian diplomat stressed that Tbilisi will further be ready to receive representatives of the two neighbouring countries and help resolve specific issues on the agenda.
