FM: Direct Armenia–Türkiye trade to lower prices

14 May 2026 14:22

Direct trade between Armenia and Türkiye will lead to lower prices for goods, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said, according to Armenian media cited by Caliber.Az.

Mirzoyan stated that conditions are being created to facilitate the development of bilateral trade.

“Previously, Turkish goods were sent for customs clearance in Georgia and only then entered Armenia; now logistics are being simplified,” he said.

He indicated that the easing of logistical processes is expected to contribute to more efficient trade flows and reduced costs for consumers.

Armenia and Türkiye do not have formal diplomatic relations, and their shared border has remained closed since the 1990s.

Despite this, the two sides have in recent years engaged in negotiations aimed at normalising relations and reopening transport and trade links.

As part of these efforts, on May 4, Armenia and Türkiye signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly restore the historic Ani Bridge, a landmark from the Silk Road located on their border.

Further signalling a shift toward improved ties, Türkiye on May 13 lifted a restriction on direct trade with Armenia in what has been described as a symbolic gesture.
