FM Mirzoyan stresses need for reconciliation between Armenian and Azerbaijani societies

24 October 2025 14:18

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has said that Armenia and Azerbaijan have achieved peace and are now working intensively toward the full normalisation of their relations, emphasising that reconciliation between the two societies is now essential.

According to Caliber.Az, citing Armenian media, Mirzoyan made the remarks during a panel discussion at the 4th Ministerial Conference on Feminist Diplomacy.

“Perhaps it is already well known that we have made peace with Azerbaijan. Both countries are now working hard toward the complete normalisation of relations,” Mirzoyan said. “Therefore, alongside the government’s efforts aimed at signing official agreements and developing concrete solutions, there is also a great need for reconciliation between our societies.”

The Armenian foreign minister also addressed the impact of conflict on women, underlining their central role in reconciliation efforts. “We fully understand and acknowledge the suffering of women during conflicts. While fully respecting their feelings, we must also emphasise that in the process of reconciliation within societies and families, the leading role of women cannot be underestimated,” he stated.

Mirzoyan described this as a crucial element of Armenia’s current agenda, highlighting that the involvement of women is indispensable to building lasting peace. “This fact is obvious and of crucial importance. That is why this topic holds special significance for our country. We sincerely hope that the women of our society will find the strength to overcome the pain caused by the conflict and the loss of loved ones,” he said.

He added that women have an important responsibility in ensuring that the suffering of the past is not repeated. “Moreover, they must take on the important responsibility of preventing future suffering and advancing the process of reconciliation,” Mirzoyan concluded.
