Footage surfaces after nine Kazakh servicemen killed in Caspian incident

Footage from the scene of a deadly incident in Kazakhstan’s Mangystau region, where nine servicemen were preliminarily reported killed, has emerged online.

The video was published by Aktau-based blogger Azamat Sarsenbayev.

The incident occurred on September 24 during exercises conducted by the Naval Forces of Kazakhstan’s Armed Forces. While carrying out a training and combat mission along the Caspian Sea coast, 19 servicemen were swept into the water following a sharp deterioration in weather conditions and strengthening winds.

According to preliminary information from the Kazakh Defence Ministry, nine servicemen have been confirmed dead. Three others were rescued, including one who was hospitalized, while search operations for the remaining personnel are continuing.

Kazakh Prosecutor General’s Office said a criminal case had been opened into the deaths of servicemen during the exercises at the Aktau garrison.
